"Studio Night" Ongoing Workshops

Studio Night sessions allow My Photo Group members and amateur photographers the opportunity to join in a community based learning environment where learning is by doing. These sessions reinforcing previously learned lessons by allowing members to remain active in the classes from session to session. It is by repetitively doing that lessons get ingrained into our common knowledge.

These ongoing workshops are designed to be;

  • Affordable, pay $10 per session at the door
  • Accessible, for your continuing education
  • Informal, attend sessions as they suit your schedule
  • Easy to follow, simple breakdowns and step by step instructions
  • Fun, socialize and learn with other like-minded photographers

Studio Night - Lightroom Edition

1st Thursday of the month

6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Unitas Photography Studio

415 Howe Avenue, Suite 181, Shelton

This is an ongoing series where we will explore Adobe's Lightroom Classic and maybe even the mobile app. Informal sessions work on group consensus as to the topic to be covered. I will post a general topic in the Facebook group but topics tend to be flexible. These are small groups where we often tackle two or three topics per session.

What to Bring: Definitely bring your laptop preloaded with LR and a pointing device (tablet is recommended but at least a mouse). Don't forget your power supply. Have at least one or two images on your system you would like to work on during the session.

Feel free to bring snacks and beverages. Any beverage must be in a container that can be secured to prevent spillage.

Price: $10.00 / per session*

* You can pay at the door. Come as often or as seldom as you like. Topics will vary from session to session. See the Facebook group for details.

Upcoming Workshops

Basics of Flash Photography

Thursday, June 27th, 2019

7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Unitas Photography Studio

415 Howe Avenue, Suite 181, Shelton

Once you understand the exposure triangle, available light photography becomes fairly easy to grasp. When you add a flash, that triangle is no longer useful. This workshop is designed to break down the basics and help start demystifying the process of using flash as an additional light source.

Don't think you will grasp the full understanding of flash photography in one session. You will, however, get a solid introduction of the fundamentals that hopefully will help lose the fear of experimenting with it.

The topic will be general flash use. The same principles will apply to small speedlights as they do to larger monolights. You'll will also be introduced to several types of light modifiers, like umbrellas and softboxes, and an incident light meter. I will also touch on the inverse square law.

What to Bring: Definitely bring your camera with fresh batteries and a clean memory card. A nice 'portrait lens' will suffice (50mm to 85mm). You might also want to bring a notepad to jot down notes. If you have your own incident light meter and don't understand it, bring it as well. Everything else will be provided.

Price: $30.00
