For ongoing education, I can not recommend the photography forum photoMENTORIS.com enough. One of the best ways to improve your photography is through a mentor. This forum allows professional and peer photographers to help you advance.

"Studio Night" Ongoing Workshops

Studio Night sessions allow My Photo Group members and amateur photographers the opportunity to join in a community based learning environment where learning is by doing. These sessions reinforcing previously learned lessons by allowing members to remain active in the classes from session to session. It is by repetitively doing that lessons get ingrained into our common knowledge.

These ongoing workshops are designed to be;

  • Affordable, pay $10 per session at the door
  • Accessible, for your continuing education
  • Informal, attend sessions as they suit your schedule
  • Easy to follow, simple breakdowns and step by step instructions
  • Fun, socialize and learn with other like-minded photographers

How to Build an Effective Texture Library

Sunday, October 13, 2019

3:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Unitas photography Studio

415 Howe Avenue, suite 181, Shelton, CT

This is a two part event beginning with a presentation and discussion on "How to Build an Effective Texture Library." In this presentation I'll demonstrate several techniques on how to build a texture library on your computer using Adobe Lightroom to catalog and reference various types of textures.

I will also explain ways to properly light and shoot for textures using off camera flash and reflectors. I'll also share some tips and tricks about composition, angles and pre-planning ideas.

After the presentation we will head out, cameras in hand, to begin building your own library with the goal being to get you in the habit of really looking at your surroundings for all the textures found around you. They are usually cleverly hidden in plain sight but once you begin focusing on them, they present themselves in abundance.

Beyond the Rule of Thirds

Thursday, October 24, 201

7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Milford Photo

22 River St · Milford, CT

The Rule of Thirds, that compositional crutch every new photographer is taught to help them create stronger compositions.

The problem with this rule is that all too often the learning of composition stops there. Any deviation is often referred to as "breaking the rules" because in true art there are "no rules". The problem with that logic is that all too often "breaking the rule" is simply substituting it with another rule the photographer is not aware of. In truth, one rule is being switched for another and in the end, a rule is applied.

This lecture is designed to explain the various other rules of composition not often discussed or taught to the beginning artist. Many of these compositional rules have their foundations in early classical art from such masters as DaVinci, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, and others. This lecture will explore some of those early structures and how they apply in modern photography.

Topics Covered:

• The basics of the Rule of Thirds

• Other common and not so commonly used compositional rules

• How to read an image

• 8 Principles of good Composition

• Geometric and Psychological principles of composition

Price: $24.95
